Did you get lost in Amsterdam?

On the way to India I arranged to fly with a fellow HELP volunteer.  Unfortunately, a week before we were supposed to leave she found out that her Indian visa would not arrive in time.  So there I was… about to fly to Amsterdam and spend two days there all by myself.  I tried to find a different flight and tried to come up with another way to get to India.  Nothing.  Luckily, I have THE most generous parents in the world who thought it might be fun to have my sister-in-law, Asia, come to Amsterdam with me for only basically a day and a half.  Needless to say she jumped at the opportunity and we had a blast.

We stayed in an adorable Airbnb in the perfect location and our host was awesome.  Asia and I wanted to avoid the famous red light district which we did. Kind of.  On the way to the cutest little brunch spot we took a short cut and found ourselves cutting through the red light district at 10 am.  Still closed my eyes the majority of the way.

Here is one of my favorite songs for you to jam to before scrolling through the photos… Amsterdam

India… wow. India is the most beautiful, strange, difficult, and powerful place.  India is the reason I haven’t blogged for two months.  I saw on Instagram a post about an opportunity to go to India and photograph a developmental project. I didn’t think it was something I could do or if it was something I even wanted to do.  Later that day my husband texted me saying “Do you want to go to India?”… Now how cool is that??? In some ways I felt that when I got married I wouldn’t be able to do anything adventurous by myself. Boy was I wrong.  I’m pretty lucky to have a supportive husband who pushes me to do crazy things.

FIRST DAY IN INDIA! First off the Indian clothes are freaking adorable. It is crazy how much traveling makes you exhausted.  On the way from Delhi to Hyderabad I made a friend named Sri.  Sri is a doctor and was super helpful in a new place.  It was also fun because I was able to share some small parts of the gospel with him.  Side note… India in June is BLAZING hot.  Seriously it is 115 degrees everyday and super humid.  I definitely was embarrassed at first at how much I wanted my American comforts.  It took a few days for our apartment to be equipped with WiFi.  In Hyderabad running water worked only from 6am to 9am.  So we had to fill buckets up and shower with that.  I said lots of prayers those few weeks.  Prayers for safety, and of love, and gratitude.

These drawings are in front of every door and temple and business in India.  Kolams. Such a fun Welcome.

Church in India was amazing!  I got to go to the ward where my brother James first served his mission.  Sailesh on the right was his first baptism!  Sailesh is now married to Jaya and have a new baby!  Everyone was so excited to meet Elder Egan’s sister.  I was pretty honored. 11295707_10153278967866250_6423411486857120929_n11295618_10153279460146250_8605047795431196230_n11247804_10153279460366250_2783930236289891726_n10501790_10153279460221250_8646334245302256665_n

Jelly Beans!  We bought the jelly belly beanboozled pack and played it as a game in our hotel room.  It is the funnest and worst thing all at the same time.  It has a bunch of colors of jelly beans each color has a good flavor and a bad flavor like, caramel corn or rotten egg, black licorice or stinky skunk.  The bad ones literally make your tongue want to fall off.

Hay Hay singing the NO L song. (To the tune of The First Noel)

Sun Valley-52

To spell Santa’s name is easy to do
You write S A N T and another A, too
But no L, no L, Santa’s name has no L
And he won’t be too pleased if you don’t learn to spell

Jack and Jill went up a hill to fetch water from a well
But when neither one could find it, Jill started to yell
No well, no well, can’t believe there’s no well
We walked all the way here and I’m mad, can’t you tell?

Captain Ahab took his crew, his harpoon and set sail
And he called out to ships, ‘Have you seen the white whale?’
No whale, no whale, we ain’t seen no whale
Saw a couple of dolphins, and a big yellow tail

If you’ve listened to this tune, then you probably can tell
That you’ve heard it before, it’s a song you know well
Know well, know well, it’s a song you know well
And we’ve ruined it completely, so we all say ‘Oh well’

Oh well, oh well, We’ll just say ‘Fare thee well’
Merry Christmas to you, and a Joyous Noel

What is a family party without Jeopardy?  If you wanna play next year, here are the categories and questions I used for this year’s game. I do just a basic trivia game it’s called jeopardy just for fun, you don’t have to answer with a question.  In between every four questions I do a Challenge to kind of keep the game exciting. Hope you enjoy.

What an amazing year it has been. CANNOT wait to see what 2015 holds.

5 Days

Chris was in LA for 5 days at Nickelodeon for work.  It is torture when your spouse gets to go somewhere cool WITHOUT YOU.  It brought back the sentimental yet horrible memories of Chris living in Chicago for 5 MONTHS while I was here in Salt Lake.  The hours spent face timing was incalculable and the amount of time we spent together during those months can basically be added up to barely two weeks.  Chris and I haven’t spent too much time apart since we’ve been married…  Which was a much needed break after the long distance dating.  I missed Chris the whole week while I went to school, cleaned, played words with friends, ate chick fil a, watched netflix, played casino with grandma, taught dance, edited. (watched more netflix.) I was super productive hahahaha. FINALLY, Chris came home Friday with Flowers from Jolley’s in hand and said “Can I take you out tonight?” Love that kid.

We got drinks at shivers. YUM. Then Chris decided he really wanted to go bowling.  I agreed and we headed to Olympus Hills Bowling Alley.  The reason we go to Oly hills besides the fact it is a great time is because they have our favorite arcade game: Big Buck Hunter SAFARI.  We arrive at the bowling alley excited to start the night with Big Buck Hunter.  WE LOOK EVERYWHERE.  They got rid of it.  Holding back tears Chris decided we would go to a different bowling alley.  This time we head to Sue & Rich’s.  Guess What? The coolest, most ghetto, cheap bowling alley is CLOSED. CLOOOOOSED for good! *wipes away tear* On to the next alley.  Fat Cats on 900 E. It is always packed on the weekends but the plus side… It has tons of arcade games.  We waited in line to buy a round of bowling and get our shoes for about 15 minutes.  When we got to the front of the line we both looked at each other and Chris said “Do we really wanna bowl?”  Got right out of line and headed to the arcade.  Unfortunately, they didn’t have the Safari version of Big Buck Hunter but the regular one did just fine.  We played a couple of games and headed home.  Quite the date night right?  I love that I can do anything with Chris and still laugh and have a good time.  That’s what your spouse should be for you.  A safe place, someone who can make any situation better.  Chris is that and more for me.

At least we got some good pictures.  Chris had my camera all week in LA and I had been craving it!!!! Here is what we got!

MAX Adventure Zip Line

Here’s the thing.  I wished I loved hiking… I really do.  I haven’t found my love for it… yet.  Hopefully, I will soon or eventually.  Luckily, there are some outdoor things to do besides that for now. For example:

MAX Adventure Zip Line    in Provo Canyon

The guides were helpful and the lines were fun and fast. They use a great braking system and participants go on 5 zip lines from start to finish. You can get some great deals if you schedule a spot with several people! So get a group of 7 or 8 and go for $20 cheaper. I recommend going earlier in the morning so you aren’t in the scorching heat.  We went at 9AM and it was perfect timing.  Little kids will have blast too!

The last line is the longest and takes your right back where you parked your car.  BOOYA.

Egans Take Oceanside

Oceanside as usual didn’t disappoint. Let me give you a few reasons why it is and forever will be my favorite trip.

it’s the perfect place for penny boarding and beach biking to the park.

It’s where my cousins went from cousins to best friends and bridesmaids.

You get to wear swim suits every where you go and bare feet.IMG_3183.jpg

You can make new friends with the chillest of people.  (or animals)IMG_3282.jpg

They are second to Utah for prettiest sunsets.

You learn to prepare to be surprised.  (my poor dad)

Mostly because it’s the place where some of my most cherished memories are.

Screen Shot 2014-08-04 at 11.56.21 PM

This year was even better because my best friend got to spend the whole week with me there.  We even got to celebrate our six months of marriage. (not too exciting but it’s crazy how time it flying!) and California is the only place where I will let Chris have a mustache.

Random Elizabeth Egan concerts.

You get to spend everyday laughing with Nate the Great.

Because I spend several wonderful hours planning the Annual Oceanside Jeopardy game with Missy.

We even went digital this year.  Missy had all the questions and answers on her iPad.

The Categories this year:

LP 2014

The George family takes a vacation to Lake Powell every summer.  This was my first time on the trip and I was introduced to long standing traditions.  I added a few of my own and we had the most amazing trip. Some of the traditions include: a midnight dip in the lake, catching lizards or mice (gross), braiding hair, just dance competitions and parties, sleeping on the top deck under the stars, eating lots of candy, etc.

First things first.  A Seadoo ride to make yourself familiar with the area.  There are some sweet coves.DCIM100GOPRONext is a leisurely surf ride behind the boat.  SURFS UP RICHARD! DCIM100GOPROkick it up a notch with some heavyweights blob action.

Road Trip | Island Park |

Road Trips…

a time of fun memories with loved ones OR a time of wanting to bang your head against the dashboard

What makes a good road trip you ask??????

1. Snacks – Don’t overlook the importance of good snacks.  Have balance of sweet and salty and healthy and junk.  LOTS OF WATER.
Roadtrip29.jpg2. Playlist – The music sets the tone for the whole trip.  I made a playlist that is full of sing-a-long classics, alternative crowd pleasers, and occasional pump up jams. Follow me on spotify to get the playlist!

3. A Good Audio Book – I absolutely hate reading in the car.  Headache central.  Listening to a book is a great alternative.  Unbroken is an amazing story and Chris and I have been absolutely captivated by it.  It’s a great book to listen to on a long road trip.
unbroken4. CONVERSATION – Pivotal part of a car ride.  I like to bring the game table topics along.  However, if you do not happen to have the game just look up on your phone some fun talking topics. IMG_0363

5. LAUGHS – Pandora stand up comedy stations are THE BOMB. (yes I just said the bomb) Listen to Jim Gaffigan, Gary Gulman, Brian Regan, John Mulaney… Etc.  Good laughs with everyone the whole trip.

Roadtrip3.jpgNow here are some pictures of the actual Vacation!!!!
